visually stunning film though and i wonder if the lack of emotional depth is less guillermo and more netflix and their strict content rules. feels like a proper film studio would have allowed for less literalism
I personally really liked the film! I thought it was great. Most of my gripes come from the fact that so much of the book was missing, it felt like a lot was lost but still had the core essence in my opinion. One day though I would genuinely love an almost straight forward adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel, I think it could be beautiful!
Nice take Kevin. I agreed with the loitering during Victor's earlier years. I also felt that these scenes didn't go deep enough with understanding Victor's character which meant the final lost some impact.
“this sleek, soft boy reminded me of one of the engineers from the Prometheus movies” omg i thought i was the only one who noticed that he looked like an engineer😭 true ridley scott fan guillermo is
The pacing in the first hour was brutal. I found myself checking my watch multiple times throughout the movie. Wonder if the sea captain regretted asking Victor his story? Lol
Sometimes I think directors become so consumed with completing their vision with CGI that they don't really see how it looks to an audience. Bad visual effects will only age the film more quickly. I think they need more honest people not involved with the production to give them some feedback along the way.

I totally don't get the first hour; it's a slog!
100% ugh. Victor’s intro needed to be like 20 min max! We’re here to see the creature!
Great review Kevin. I agree with a lot of what you say. The production is impressive but it feels a bit flat and overly filled with CGI.
Thanks Dan! I'm a bit confused by the decision to use all that CGI and just shoot it that way.

It's the way that angel kinda looked like AI to me...def needed more pratical effects.
Agreed!
