I have to disagree with your comment about A24 track record not being great in horror. They have a pretty good critical track record in horror films, and while I appreciate the style and tone isn't for everyone, just because someone doesn,t personally like them on a personal note, doesn't mean they have a bad track record overall.
I've not seen Undertone yet, seeing it Saturday hopefully but I love subtle horror like Lake Mungo and Dark and the Wicked, so am hoping I'll enjoy this one. But I get why someone doesn't like these type of subtle films tho. Either your vibe or it isnt and I suspect even tho it's mainly got positive reviews so far, it will end up being a very mixed bag for the massages in the end.
I have been speaking mostly lately, and I find A24’s distribution choices to be lacking. I wish more of these films were subtle and not trying so hard to be “elevated” or copied and pasted from one another, lacking substance.
Bring Her Back for sure. Heretic was fun but kind of fine. Maxxxine, Opus, and that Death of Unicorn all did not work for me whatsoever, if those all count!
I didn't mind most of them (a couple in a bad but fun kind of way) but agree none are overly good.. Though was great seeing Hugh Grant playing that kind of role in Heretic.
I knew works be bad, I mean white noise failed because scary sounds does not a movie make
