This is what I was afraid of when I saw the trailer, tbh. It looked absolutely wild, but like it was riding on vibes more than anything else. Which is a shame, I loved Talk To Me. 😩 Thanks for reviewing!
Sure, well in that case I'll observe that though everyone's all oh Tom Cruise he's so handsome and does his own stunts, I am in fact more handsome, and even though I'm a touch older than him I do my own stunts too - why just yesterday I opened the pickle jar all by myself.
I didn't really enjoy "Talk to Me" so I probably won't like this one. I'm sure I'll catch it on streaming.
I like what you said -- " 'elevated' horror or whatever". Exactly -- such a bullshit term that I think people who think of themselves as cinephiles came up with to snub what they see as a sub-par genre. Really, I think we should just start calling it "A24 Horror". That says everything you need to know right there.
A24 gave us, in the old days, 'Ex Machina'. 'The Spectacular Now', 'Under the Skin', 'A Most Violent Year', Misdsommar', 'Lighthouse', 'The Witch', 'Green Room and 'Lobster'.
This decade, there's been 'Saint Maud', 'Lamb', Red Rocket', 'Everything Everywhere All at Once', 'X', 'Marcel the Shell with Shoes On' and the underrated 'Men'.
'Past Lives' is my favourite romance, 'The Zone of Interest' was slowly unnerving with the banality of evil, the documentary 'My Mercury' was an excellent character study of a man on an island, as insightful as the fiction 'A Different Man'.
'I Saw the TV Glow' one of the smartest thrillers this century.
Most recently I appreciated 'Warfare', the horror of reality, and 'On Becoming a Guinea Fowl', a sexual abuse story set in Zambia.
I'm happy for them to make more genre thrillers, or even movies that aren't needed, like 'Maxxine', if it helps them deliver the indie stuff.
'Talk to Me' was the best teen horror in ages, so I'm disappointed that this isn't going to be all I was hoping it would be.
'Final Destination' was better than expected. You also recommended 'Shroud' but I haven't gotten there.
'The Rule of Jenny Pen' may be my favourite thrill of the year, boosted by my dwelling on ageism. However, 'Presence' was the classiest. 'Project MKHEXE' deserves better rating. 'The Monkey' and 'Dead Mail' get kudos for weirdness. 'Freaky Tales' was retro fun.
The future lies with 'Vicious', 'Weapons', 'Together', 'We Bury the Dead', '28 Years Later' and 'Párvulos: Children of the Apocalypse'. There's also the indie path with 'Gazer' and 'Three Mirrors Creature's Flashes of Flesh'.
I'm most looking forward to Dir Chloe Okuno's 'The Dating Game'. Her 'Watcher' with Maika Monroe was excellent. Hopefully I won't be disappointed. Maika Monroe's 'They Follow' coming in 2026.
Caught this movie tonight.
Definitely dealt with grief in the film.
Thought it was alright 6 maybe 7 out of 10 lol

You're my inspiration!

Yes, I'm going to have sex on the next date with A24.
